Making homemade soap without the use of lye is a safe and natural option for those who want to avoid harsh chemicals.

Using simple ingredients like vinegar and baking soda , you can create effective cleaning bars for your home or laundry. This detailed guide will show you how.

Ingredients needed:

  • 2 cups baking soda : Natural cleaning agent and deodorizer.
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar : Powerful natural disinfectant and polish.
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch (optional) : Helps improve the texture of the bars.
  • 10-15 drops of essential oil : To add fragrance and antibacterial properties. Lavender, tea tree, or lemon essential oils are excellent choices.
  • 1/4 cup grated Marseille soap (optional) : Adds extra cleaning power.

Necessary Tools:

  • Large bowl
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Silicone soap molds

Procedure:

  1. Preparing the dry ingredients : In a large bowl, combine the baking soda and cornstarch (if using). Add grated Marseille soap if you want to further enhance the cleansing power of your bars.
  2. Adding Vinegar : Slowly add the white vinegar to the dry mixture. You’ll notice a slight fizzing due to the chemical reaction between the vinegar and baking soda. Stir constantly until the fizzing subsides and the mixture becomes smooth.
  3. Essential Oils : Add drops of essential oil to the mixture and continue stirring until all the ingredients are well combined. Essential oils not only add a pleasant fragrance, but also add antibacterial or relaxing properties, depending on the type of oil used.
  4. Shaping : Pour the mixture into silicone molds. Press the mixture firmly into the molds to ensure it is compact and free of air bubbles. Level the surface with a spatula or wooden spoon to obtain uniform bars.
  5. Drying : Leave the molds in a dry, well-ventilated place for at least 24 hours, or until the bars are completely dry and solid. If necessary, let them dry for a few more days.
  6. Removing from the molds : Once the bars are dry and firm, remove them from the molds. If they still feel moist or soft, let them air dry for a few more days until they reach the desired consistency.
